| PAINT ADHESION TESTING
How durable is your paint adhesion? What variables can you change to improve it?
It’s time to find out.
CUSTOM BLENDED IRON PHOSPHATIZING PROGRAM
Commercial Industrial Supply Company is an industry leader in iron phosphatizing and pre-treatment chemcials. We supply our customers a custom-blended iron phosphatizing product (Ferricote) specially formulated to produce peak cleaning, iron-phosphatizing and paint adhesion results. (Testing Flowchart)
We consider the unique water chemistry, metal quality and special cleaning requirements of each customer in developing the Ferricote product that best suits the customer’s pre-treatment needs. Our testing process provides the customer with visual and written feedback of the paint adhesion results under the existing pre-treatment system and the proposed pre-treatment system. The primary benefit of this process is that it allows the customer to visually observe the variations in adhesion quality and make a fully informed business decision based on the customer’s cost/benefit preferences.
Testing is performed at the customer's shop, using their water, steel and paint - so it accurately reflects the actual results achieved during production.
Through the testing process, the customer also benefits from our knowledge and help troubleshooting problems with degreasing, flash rust, and chemical application.

| PAINT ADHESION TESTING PROCESS:
-
Collect Data: Onsite review of the current pre-treatment process - Chemicals, Application, and Equipment.
-
Collect Samples: Representative metal and water samples are brought back to our shop. The water sample must be representative of the water used in the cleaning process (for example, if the water is treated with a water softener, we want to test the treated soft water, not tap water). The metal samples should be approximately 6” x 24” and include a separate sample for each type of metal used in production (for example: hot rolled, cold rolled, angle, tube).
-
Test Preparation: Using data and samples collected, we develop program for on-site testing including determination of optimal custom blends to test on-site.
-
On-site Testing: We return to the customer site within 7 days to provide on-site testing with customer personnel (and paint rep if needed) to develop fully treated and painted test panels. These test panels will be representative of the customer’s existing pre-treatment system and our proposed pretreatment system. The test panels used in this process should be approximately 4” x 12” and drilled for hanging.
-
Adhesion Testing: Once the treated test panels are fully cured (approximately 5-7 days), the test panels are sent to us for adhesion testing. Note: Our adhesion testing is performed in accordance with The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard Test Methods.
-
Results: We return to the customer site within 7 days to present the final results of the adhesion testing process.
